Get Rid Of That Thing On Your To-Do List…Now!!
My husband often tells a story about a colleague who had a poster on the wall with Mark Twain’s famous quote:
“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”
The basic principle is that toads are slimy and yucky and if you eat your toad first, everything else will surely taste better. Fortunately, most of us aren’t eating too many real toads for breakfast.
But if you translate the concept onto your personal to-do list, the toad is that thing that you really, really, really don’t want to do, but you have to do.
The thing that stays on your to-do list day after day after day.
You know that thing I’m talking about.
It’s the call that you dread, the task you’re worried about. It is the report you don’t feel confident to complete or the bill you wish you didn’t have to pay. It makes you fret. Fills your head or your heart with dread. It makes you worry. And often it keeps you up at night.
But if you follow the suggestion, and eat the toad FIRST, it actually stops all dread, the fretting, and the worry. You feel lighter overall, and it even feels like you can stand up taller. The funny thing is that actually doing the thing is rarely as bad as it seems.
So here is my challenge to you for today:
1) Name your personal toad (the one that has been hanging around lately).
2) Eat it.
That’s all the wisdom for this week!
Let me know how it goes. How you feel and what is different. You can leave a comment below. And please share this message with others if you find it useful!
You deserve the physical and mental freedom of having that yucky toad taken care of!
